Choose a pathway, not a nationality shortcut
Canadian immigration eligibility depends on the program and your circumstances, not a country-specific promise of approval. Applicants from China may consider skilled-worker programs, provincial nominations, study, employer-supported work or family sponsorship. First establish whether your goal is a temporary stay, permanent residence or proof of existing citizenship.
Preparing your evidence
Prepare a clear chain of education and employment evidence. Chinese-language documents may need translation under the application’s instructions; a bilingual document is not automatically sufficient for every requirement. Keep names, dates and translations consistent across civil records, passports, school records and work letters. Ask the designated credential-assessment organization which academic documents must be sent directly by an institution.
Police certificates and identity records
Check IRCC’s China-specific police certificate instructions for the places and periods relevant to your history. Requirements depend on residence and the immigration program, not simply citizenship. Start researching document availability early, but follow the application’s timing requirements before ordering time-limited records.
Language, education and family planning
For Express Entry, check eligibility for at least one managed program before using a CRS estimate to compare past draws. Approved language tests and an education credential assessment may be needed. Include the correct accompanying family members and budget for government charges, biometrics and third-party costs. Funds must be documented where the program requires them; borrowed money or unexplained deposits may require closer review.
